Finishing a good eight hours of work seems almost impossible in today’s world of quick access to content, colleagues, and friends. Distraction avoidance, on the other hand, is not a Herculean activity. Staying positive at work, like going to the gym every day, is a matter of developing healthy habits.
Setting Crystal Clear Goals.
Create a list of your top priorities for the week instead of saying, “I’m going to work a good eight hours every day.” This prevents you from responding to any distractions that arise. Each morning, go through your list and decide what activities you can realistically complete that day. Make a firm commitment: “By noon, I will have completed phases 1-3 of the project.”
Manage your Distractions.
Distractions aren’t all bad; you just have to figure out how to make them work for you. Use them as an incentive for doing a significant amount of work. Begin with distractions that are beneficial to your health, such as working out or calling friends. If you like Facebook and Twitter, set aside time in your schedule to write or read other people’s posts, but stick to it. Keep in mind that you are in charge of the distractions.
Divide your Work.
When we operate, our alertness decreases, making distractions more appealing. Set a timer for each loop and take a rest at the end. Listen to music for a few minutes, go for a quick stroll, or go to lunch to reset the concentration.
That’s what there is to it. These ideas will help you stay focused, and I hope they do the same for you. You’ve already heard some of these suggestions before, but that’s how they work! I’d love to learn some of your tips and tricks for staying focused.
